Principalship has many complexities and clearly Ciall Ceannaithe for Newly Appointed Principals is not attempting to be a blueprint for successful school leadership. It is intended to be a Tús maith to help you develop an understanding of best practice, gain confidence in your role and prioritise during your first year. As you settle into the role, we encourage you to engage with all available supports and services and develop the habit of continuous professional and personal development. After all, as Principal you are not just the leader of the school, but also the leading learner.
Based on workshops given by Joe O'Connell over the past few years, this well-received course covers areas such as Reflection on Leadership, Challenging Behaviour and Situations , Indicators of Growing Challenge, Team Building, Personal Reaction to Challenge, Listening Skills, Influencing Style, Mediation, Life Skills for Leaders, Goals and Goal Setting and Time Management.
Bullying - Prevention & Counteraction: This course mixes a highly informative knowledge approach with practical school policy development. So for example, after learning about Documenting / Reporting Bullying - you are asked to review various school policy documents in this area in order to generate your own policy documents. By the end of the course, you will have well understood, well thought out policy in this area.
